St. Augustine Addiction Therapy

Despite the many efforts to help de-stigmatize addiction treatment, there are still misconceptions about what the treatment process actually looks like. Some think that attending a treatment program means that they will be hospitalized for a period of time. Others may think that they won’t be able to be in touch with their loved ones if they go to rehab. While understandable, these misconceptions could not be farther from the truth. A case in point is the Pearl of the Sea Retreat in St. Augustine, FL. We offer a wide range of addiction therapy services to ensure you’re healing inside and out as you recover from addiction.

The Value of Healing From Treatment In St. Augustine Addiction Therapy

Different people respond well to different kinds of environments. For example, we find that when professionals are in need of addiction treatment, they do better in a place where they feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Professionals often have high-stress occupations that can contribute to their substance abuse. With the opportunity to unwind a bit, they have more energy to put into the recovery process. Pearl of the Sea retreat is housed in what was formerly a luxury bed and breakfast, providing a beautiful location in which to begin their healing process.

When clients feel at home and well cared for, they can make better progress toward their recovery goals. At Pearl of the Sea Retreat in St. Augustine, FL, we aim to provide relaxing and healing addiction therapy services to help our clients achieve these goals – and more! We believe it is our responsibility to do everything in our power to help our guests find healing and peace during this vulnerable time.

Unique Addiction Therapy Options

Due to our unique location, Pearl of the Sea Retreat offers a variety of immersive addiction therapy services you can’t find elsewhere. Our prime Crescent Beach location on the Intracoastal Waterway in historic St. Augustine allows you to escape to paradise while you focus on healing.

We know that addiction treatment can be hard work. Talk therapy and group sessions can be demanding at times and take a lot of mental, emotional, and spiritual energy. Our clients have access to a range of coastal activities, which we call nature therapy and marine therapy. Coming soon, we will offer outdoor experiential therapies including paddle boarding, boating, dolphin watching, and surfing. These unique therapeutic activities provide our clients with the chance to pause, recharge, and focus on their needs.

What makes us unique is that we offer standard, traditional therapies that have been proven to help treat addiction, mental health, and dual diagnosis, but in ways that make the process feel refreshing. For example, we offer talk therapy in our boathouse, where clients can enjoy picturesque views while tackling tough topics.

St. Augustine Addiction Therapy Options

Our goal is to make all of our clients feel relaxed and uniquely cared for during their time with us. This way, they feel more comfortable dealing with the issues that led them down the road to addiction. The addiction therapies that we provide include, but are not limited to, the following:

Individual Psychotherapy

This involves one-on-one therapy sessions with a trained therapist who helps the client understand their past and formulate a plan to address their current-day issues. The client learns to be more self-aware and build their self-esteem so they are better able to tackle recovery long-term.

Group Counseling

Group therapy consists of several people with similar issues being led by a therapist. People learn to communicate their stories, accept suggestions from others, and offer support to other group members.

Family Therapy

Family members come together as a unit in order to learn how to support their loved one dealing with an addiction. The therapist helps everyone understand their roles both in the past and as their loved one moves through the stages of recovery, allowing the entire family to heal together.

Trauma Therapies

These include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which involves a therapist directing lateral eye movements in the client in order to reduce and remove the impact of past traumatic events. Other options for trauma therapy include exposure therapy, which involves exposing a client to the source of their anxiety so they can face their fears and overcome the stress they invoke.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT proves effective for treating addiction, depression, anxiety disorders, and other issues. It teaches people to change their thinking process and develop better ways of coping.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Many therapists use DBT to treat addiction, trauma, and other conditions. It teaches people to develop healthy ways to cope with stress, live in the moment, and regulate their emotions.

Contingency Management

Successful in treating addiction and other issues, contingency management is a behavioral therapy that rewards and reinforces individuals for positive changes they make in their behaviors.

Motivational Interviewing

Designed to bring about changes in a person’s behavior, motivational therapy teaches a person to move out of a state of indecision and become motivated to make positive decisions and accomplish their goals.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Often used to treat diagnoses like anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), ACT teaches people to accept and embrace their feelings instead of fighting or feeling guilty for them. This allows them to make decisions about how to make positive changes and move forward.
